Quick PNW golf outing

I took a quick trip home for a friend’s birthday and got in a couple rounds of golf. Saturday’s round was a tournament round with some guys we used to play sports with back in the day. I hadn’t played Stone Creek in close to twenty years so I didn’t remember much about it. Course conditions are quite different compared to most courses in Reno. I’ve grown accustomed to firm turf, extra roll, and chip shots from tighter lies. I don’t want to make excuses for my poor play, but thick rough and divots hurt my shot all weekend.

Divot after divot killed my distance control. Add that to playing at near sea level after now being accustomed to 4500’+ elevation at most courses around Reno, and my club selection became a real issue. My shots were on target, but I was short on almost every shot into the green and birdie opportunities were scarce.

Day 2 was a return visit home and a round at the Longview Country Club. I’d played the course a couple times, at tournaments that were more about drinking than golfing. We opted for a team 2 man best ball game. Unlike the day prior, my play was more consistent and in line with my typical golf game. The course is short which is usually an advantage for me. However, the fairways are tight and tree lined making shot placement more important than length.

Despite some hiccups on the course, it was an enjoyable weekend. Looking forward to getting back up to play some more courses.
